A potent purple power smoothie packed with purposeful ingredients. Need I say more?
And yes, I did sing purple people eater in my head while I wrote this…anyone else remember this?!
Blueberries, Kale, Chia Seeds and Maca Powder combine to make this smoothie a tasty treat AND nutritious fuel. Have you ever wondered what to do with Chia Seeds? Or how to eat them? Here’s a simple, delicious, and Hip, Simple, Fabulous™ recipe that will have you enjoying the benefits of these little seeds.
Need a reason to include blueberries in your smoothie? Blue and purple fruits contain nutrients, such as lutein, zeaxanthin, resveratrol, vitamin C, flavonoids, ellagic acid, quercetin and fiber. These nutrients have been shown to improve our immune system, support eye health, lower LDL cholesterol, encourage healthy digestion, improve calcium and mineral absorption, fight inflammation, and may prevent the activity of cancer cells.
WHAT’S A CHIA SEED?
The richest plant source of Omega-3, Chia Seeds contain more of these vital fats (that protect against inflammation and heart disease) than Salmon! You read that right, MORE Omega-3s than Salmon. Studies also show that Chia seeds help to slow down how fast our bodies convert carbohydrates into simple sugars, which helps to maintain and balance our blood sugar. Lastly, Chia Seeds soft, outer hull make them much easier to digest than flax seeds – which means our body can access their nutrients faster and more effectively.
Want to add a hint of sweet? Just add some Yacon syrup or Maca Powder for a nutritious, naturally sweet alternative.
Maca powder is ground from an adaptogenic root traditionally consumed by ancient Incan warriors to give them superior endurance and strength during battle. ONE teaspoon of Maca Powder contains an effective dose of calcium, iron, magnesium, selenium and seven essential amino acids. Its mild flavor means you can easily sprinkle this powerful powder over food, bake into breads and baked goods or stir it into smoothies, juice and yogurt.
