So very much to be grateful for as we move into October! I had the delightful pleasure to join Edible San Diego Publisher, Riley Davenport for coffee this week. What a treat to spend an hour chatting about all things food in San Diego while enjoying a lovely morning at Espresso Mio. I was reminded what a pleasure it can be to find community and to build connection over our common passion for food. I found myself in high spirits the remains of the morning, recalling our conversations and feeling gratitude for the connection.
When was the last time you enjoyed a leisurely dialogue around food?
This season is filled with wonderful ways to celebrate, to start the conversation and to build community - around food. Join us or venture out to one of these local events:
Curious about vegetarian eating? San Diego veg-curious omnivores are encouraged to experiment with vegetarian eating during San Diego Veg Week. Events include a free screening of "Forks Over Knives" this Saturday night.
Looking forward to more exciting local ways to celebrate food, fall and community?
South Park Walkabout features local artists, live music and a costumed bike parade. Begin your Saturday with a trip to the Golden Hill Farmer's Market and then spend the day enjoying local retailers, restaurants and festivities.
Willing to venture a bit further for a bit of true Fall?! I love San Diego for its mild climate but this time of year I always drive an hour or so East to get a feeling of Fall, a glimpse of turning leaves and a bit of chilly weather. What can I say? I suppose I grew up with seasons and every once in a while I miss them...
If you're like me, you might already have marked your calendar for the upcoming pumpkin events at these local farms.
Scarecrow contest and Dog costume judging are only a few of the activities to look forward to at Bates Nut Farm. Enjoy a day of tractor rides and pumpkin choosing at this favorite North county spot. Don't forget to bring your camera!
One of our favorite local farmer's market vendors is hosting a pumpkin celebration on their farm this year! Visit Suzie's Farm on October 15th to explore their artful sunflower maze, pick your own pumpkin, enjoy live music, yoga and food from Miho Gastrotruck. Sounds like an amazing Fall day to me!
Our family will be venturing back out to Corcoran Ranch at the end of this month for our annual apple picking and picnic adventure. This family-owned ranch is the perfect spot to gather apples for all of your favorite Fall recipes and to enjoy an afternoon picnic among friends and family. Maybe we'll see you there!
Looking forward to November, we'll be participating in CSA San Diego's upcoming Gluten-Free Expo in Mission Valley. Whether you're gluten-free or simply curious, join our San Diego community for gluten-free food tasting, health information and services. Come by and see me for a few samples of my favorite Gluten-Free Fall treats and a sneak-peek at my new recipes!
Let's NOURISH ourselves. Gather with folks, friends and family over food in celebration of Fall. I hope you find many ways to celebrate all that we have to be grateful for over the coming weeks. See you soon!
