11 ways to Take Back Our Food today

I'm passionate about all things health and wellness related and while I'm not much of a political activist, today's movement has my attention. Why? Because I truly believe we are what we eat - and TODAY is an opportunity to take charge of our food!

Today, February 27th, we can opportunity to come together with national advocates of healthy living and sustainable food practices. This is our chance to be a part of a healthier future.

One tiny, baby step can make a WORLD of difference...especially if each of us - the many tens of thousands of positive, like-minded game-changers - each takes 1 baby step together.

So join me today in making just 1 step towards taking charge of what we eat.

Here are a few steps we can each take TODAY to take charge of what we eat:

  1. Shop at the farmer's market today. Find one near you.

  2. Learn what's in season and cook with seasonal produce.

  3. Prepare 1 meal with simple, whole foods ingredients (nothing packaged).

  4. Experiment with vegetarian eating and participate in Meatless Mondays.

  5. Read the nutrition labels on a few of your favorite or most often used products.

  6. Choose Fair Trade products, such as chocolate, coffee and tea.

  7. Find a market that offers local food choices and learn about the value of local food.

  8. Choose a restaurant that supports your local farms and food sources.

  9. Join a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA)Find a CSA near you here.

  10. Grow your own. Start a garden with In the Koop's unique starter kit.

  11. Explore the meaning of terms  such as "natural," "local," "free-range," “grass-fed,” and "organic" that profoundly affect our food supply and what we eat.
