It's truly astounding and satisfying what we can make with just a few simple ingredients from our kitchen...and today I'm sharing a "foodie beauty" creation. While I feel it's true that beauty and health start on the inside, who doesn't enjoy a bit of pampering? You certainly deserve it!

And for those of us who are gluten-free and celiac, what better way to insure that we know exactly what ingredients are in our beauty and skin care products, than to make our own.
Coffee is the perfect kitchen ingredient to infuse a deliciously energizing scent into bath and beauty products. The ground coffee beans act as a natural exfoliant that also firms and tones skin. Coconut oil is a fabulous moisturizer and healer, while sea salt adds another textured ingredient for softer, smoother skin.
A few quick notes on preparation: It's important to use a slow cooker for even heating and melting, rather than a microwave. The microwave runs the risk of scorching and leaving large unmelted chunks. I prefer not to use microwaves, anyway. As well, you may have noticed in your own home, that coconut oil turns to liquid around 80 degrees F. As a result, for warmer climates and seasons it may be necessary to add a goat's milk soap base to our body scrub in order to maintain its solid form or simply store in a cool location or in your freezer until ready to use.
When used, this scrub gives a radiant, polished look to skin with a hint of coconut and stimulating coffee scent.
Be well and pamper yourself,
1 Cup Organic coffee beans, ground (if you do not have a grinder, many stores have one or purchase pre-ground beans)
1/2 Cup Sea Salt
2 Cups Virgin coconut oil
8 ounces Goat's Milk Soap Base, optional (helps to maintain solid form in warmer temps, see above)
Bread loaf pan or muffin pan (we used 2 min loaf pans)
1. In a slow cooker, add coconut oil and goat's milk soap base (optional). Stir until melted.
2. While it melts, line your loaf pans or muffin pan with plastic wrap. Leave extra plastic wrap exposed from the edges to allow for easy removal at the end.
3. Once thoroughly melted, add ground coffee beans and sea salt. Stir until mixed.
4. Carefully pour mixture into lined loaf pans or muffin molds.
5. Place in freezer and allow to cool and harden to solid form (approximately 1-4 hours depending on mold size, the smaller, the faster it cools).
6. Easily lift body scrub from mold with plastic wrap lining. Place upside down on a cutting board and peel gently to remove the plastic wrap.
7. Cut into desired chunks or slices. Use immediately or store in a cool place out of direct sunlight. ENJOY!
*For warmer climates and seasons add a goat's milk soap base or simply store in the freezer.
